Was forunate to see my first “in the wild” screech owl today..as a bonus I looked to the right and not 20 feet away was a barred owling giving me the eye..Might have to head back out there tomorrow!
yup, I said adventure, usually it’s just a walk in the park with the usual suspects, birds, deer, maybe a coon or 2, and if I’m real lucky a bobcat.. This morning while walking the normal trails I happened to see a large bird fly from the ground up into a palm tree. I knew it was either a red shouldered hawk or an owl, but couldn’t tell, so naturally I went off the trail to look into the tree where it flew up to. Out of nowhere from behind i was struck in the head and nearly dropped dead only to see a barred owl land next to another owl and proceed to stare me down.. I saw no nest in sight, so I’m assuming I interrupted breakfast..They didn’t seem to mind me being that after that little experience, and after my heart rate came back to normal I was able to get some decent shots..Also got some nice keepers of Black Bellied Whistling Ducks, which I’ve been searching for lately..So yeah it was kinda like an adventure today..Note to self : Always remember to wear my hat, lest I get clawed by very sharp talons!
